No Bowel Movements, No Weight Increase, He is Not Hungry
Hi Helen

I am the mother of a baby boy, 4 months old, he was 5 weeks premature and weighed 1900g when he was born. Today he weighs 5.5kg. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks upon his birth in order to gain weight, otherwise everything else was fine and normal.

The problem is that for the last couple of months he has hardly had any bowel movements, only every 3-4 weeks, and only if I help him by means of a rectal thermometer. For the past 6-7 weeks he has hardly not gained any weight, only 400g at the most. I have tried lactulose without any luck. His appetite is no good, I nearly force him to eat every 4-6 hours.

He sleeps through the night, and does not complain, i.e. he is not crying or being upset by it. He is only upset when Mommy tries to breastfeed. I have an appoitnent with my GP on Thursday, this is not the first time I have asked for the GP's help. I hope you can help me calm my nerves a little.

Best regards
A concerned mother
