Dear Ditte

It seems like a good idea to move Mathias into his own room and it is quite fine to try to move him within the next month.

I guess that he is already sleeping in his own bed, and that he will sleep in the same bed when moved to his own room. Consequently, he feels secure in his bed and the new thing is to get him used to the new place, the room, the shadows, the sounds etc., which all might be different. Should he right now lay beside you in your bed, it would be a good idea to start learning him to sleep in his own bed and then later move him into his own room.

When you then move him, you should of course still tuck him up as you usually do. Breastfeed him, rock him, let him stay in your arms for a while, etc. You could also give him a bottle of gruel, exactly as you use to do, and then you should of course also encourage him to sleep in his own bed.

As regards weaning, you should give him either mother's milk or formula until he is 12 months old. You can give him a little cow's milk, but he should not only be feeded with cow's milk until he is 1 year old.

At 9 months it is all right that cow's milk constitutes a larger part of his daily milk intake, and you can begin offering him a little natural youghurt or similar in the afternoon in stead of a breastfeed. At 9 months most babies have already started on solid foods and will be perfectly able to drink from a cup. Should you chose to wean him now, he will still need formula (minimum 400ml a day) either from a cup of via 2 bottles a day.

I hope you can make use of the above and wish you the best of luck:o)

Kind regards,

Helen Hansen
