Sleep during the Night
Dear Helen

My son is almost five months old, but he sleeps very poorly during the night. A typical day is, as follows:

5am: breastfeeding in the bed
7am: he wakes up and we get out of bed
8-9am: breastfeeding and settled for a nap
11-12am: he wakes up for a breast feed
2-3pm: breastfeeding
5pm: breastfeeding
approx. 6pm: cereal meal or vegetable purée, water from a cup
7-8pm: breastfeeding and settled for the night
10pm: he wakes up for a breast feed before I go to bed
1-2am: he wakes up for a breast feed

He is a big boy, weight 8.5 kilo, length 70 cm. I am exhausted as I only get approx. three hours' sleep at a time. Is it normal that he does not sleep more during the night? May be he wakes up just because he is used to it and not because he is hungry. I have tried to offer him the dummy, but he refuses to take it and is not satisfied before I offer him a feed.

Do you have any suggestions, how do I make him sleep longer??

Best regards
Henriette
