Table Manners
Hi Helen

I have a short question for you re food and table manners.

Our 11½ months old son has started to throw food. We do realize that it is a stage in his development, however, at the same time we would like to set limits and give him some table manners.

Before starting in the daycare he enjoyed eating his food in smaller and larger pieces (vegetables, meat and rye bread snacks), now he only wants to eat his vegetable purée at dinner, everything else is tossed on the floor. In the afternoon, when he sometimes has oatmeal buns, which he likes very much, nothing is tossed on the floor.

You recommend to move the child away from the table or move the plate away, but the thing is that he is hungry and wants to eat his vegetable purée. Would you recommend that we hold his arm instead?

The reason may also be that he is very tired in the evening and does not want to eat on his own.

Best regards
Anne
